Teal Eyes - Step by Step
Hi guys! I put together a detailed step by step picture tutorial on how I do my teal eyeshadow. I usually pair it with a pinky nude lip, rose toned blusher, and sometimes fake freckles. I was out in the sun lately though and now I have freckles of my own!
Also It probably seems like I used a lot of eyeshadow colours here but these are the exact colours I used so I said I'd include every step. You probably don't need this many at all but this is how I like to get depth to a look. I also use more or less depending on the day but these are pretty much it. The Morphe palette is perfect for these looks and it's really pigmented.
Anyway lets get to it!
Other brushes used:
I used sellotape here to create a sharp line for the eyeshadow. I generally follow the natural dip in my crease and put the tape there. Always stick the tape to your hand or something first to get the harsh stickiness off. You can also use baby wipes or concealer to clean up afterwards but I really like doing it this way!
Here I'm using brush 4 which is an Elizabeth Arden brush that I took from my mam... Any tight
blending brush will do. I used this to pack on the navy (colour 4) lower down than the other blue shades. I built this up until I had the depth I wanted. Then I used the 10S brush by Inglot (brush 5) and a dark teal colour to further deepen. I used a single shadow that I depotted (also Elizabeth Arden that I took from Mammy Wicks) but you could use a dark green mixed with black to get the same effect.

Step 1: Prepare the base
Fill in and carve out brows using concealer. I use the Maybelline Eraser Eye concealer in Light. Bring the concealer down to cover all the eyelid as an eyeshadow primer and pat the concealer in. It's really important to build up the concealer to a full and even coverage. This provides a really solid base for the eyeshadows to stick to and not go patchy. Always set from at least the brow bone upwards with another skin coloured eyeshadow or loose powder to prevent creasing and help blending.
Step 2: Build the crease
I used sellotape here to create a sharp line for the eyeshadow. I generally follow the natural dip in my crease and put the tape there. Always stick the tape to your hand or something first to get the harsh stickiness off. You can also use baby wipes or concealer to clean up afterwards but I really like doing it this way!
The next step is to build up the crease with transition colours. The first thing I always do is highlight my brow bone with a light shimmer eyeshadow and fade it downwards. I used Inglot's 395 eyeshadow on a Zoeva 234 to highlight the browbone which helps blending not go too high. The next thing is to introduce a first transition colour. Here I used a very light warm toned brown from the Smashbox Full Exposure palette with brush number 1 (Inglot 6SS). I usually use a light blue but I wanted to tone the brightness down a small bit this time!
I then mixed colours 1 & 2 from the Morphe 35B palette and used those as my blue transition shades using brush number 2 (Zoeva 228). I then intensified this with the third brush and colour 3 but didn't bring this as high as the last time. I always blend a colour and go back to the previous colour afterwards to blend. This keeps the intensity and prevents harsh lines.
Step 3: Deepen the crease
Here I'm using brush 4 which is an Elizabeth Arden brush that I took from my mam... Any tight
blending brush will do. I used this to pack on the navy (colour 4) lower down than the other blue shades. I built this up until I had the depth I wanted. Then I used the 10S brush by Inglot (brush 5) and a dark teal colour to further deepen. I used a single shadow that I depotted (also Elizabeth Arden that I took from Mammy Wicks) but you could use a dark green mixed with black to get the same effect.
Step 4: Define the lid
Now that all the crease work is finished and blended, the next step is to cut the crease and add shadows to the lid. I cut the crease using the same concealer as before on a flat brush and placed the product up against the crease and dragged down. This gives beautiful, clean lines. For this look I only wanted a half cut crease so I didn't bring the concealer the whole way to the outer corner as you can see in the first picture above. I then set the concealer straight away with a white powder to stop it smudging into the crease and making a mess.
After I cut the crease I repeat the exact same steps on the lid as I did when I was building the crease. I used the lighter shadows towards my nose and the darker ones towards the wing. I used the same brushes as I did for the crease too!
You could also just bring the concealer right to the outer corner and set it with a matte white or light blue and that would look cool too :D
Step 5: Liner
I used Lightyear from the Urban Decay moondust palette as a glitter where the light meets dark on the lid. This is a green glitter but I think it gives a pop to the eye. I then used Rimmel Glam'eyes Liquid Liner in black to line my eyes. I always have the liner going from very thin to thick at the outer corner. I then blended a small bit of the darkest shadow on the very outer parts where the liner meets the shadow. This just blends the liner with the shadows and softens everything.
Then for the most satisfying part - take the tape off! That straight line though!
Step 6: Lower lash line
I put on the rest of my face makeup (I'll list it all at the end) and set my under eye area with loose powder to prevent creasing. I then repeated all of the same steps as before to build up the lower lash line. I started with the lightest colours and then worked the darker ones closer and closer to the lash line. Highlight the inner corner with the 395 shadow from Inlgot to brighten. I lined my waterline with a turquoise Maybelline kohl pencil to give an extra pop! If I'm wearing this look on a night out I'll probably just line with black instead. Then mascara and lashes if you like and that's the finished look!
