How to Look Very Ready Very Quickly!
Anyone who knows me, anyone who even barely knows me, knows that I take an enormous amount of time to get ready. Well as much as I'm in love with the process of getting ready, sometimes I wish it didn't take so long. I want to not have to sit in front of the mirror for hours (2... 2.5...3) getting ready to be the full beat, slaying queen I am.
This post mainly came about because I have a festival coming up later in the year which I've come to realise I want to spend more time bopping at than getting ready for. I'm sure loads of you have a festival or some big event to go to that you want to look bomb for but don't have the luxury of hours and hours of time. I have a few tips and tricks below that I'm hoping will speed up the process.

Eyeshadow
I could spend well over an hour and a half on my eyeshadow if I'm going for any kind of full on look. Yeah I'm not joking, it takes this long. Partly because I'm a chronic perfectionist, partly because I'm slow, partly because I don't know what look I'm going for even though I'm currently going for it. You know the way people say in an interview that their biggest weakness is that they're a perfectionist to turn a negative into a positive? It's actually a negative for me. Anyway... eyeshadow.
- Pick a main colour, transition, and depth colour and let that be it. Don't keep going in with 40 colours and over complicating the look. It'll start to look mucky and make things worse. The look I did above is one I did using only 4 colours and you can really get a feel for the depth that can be created.
- Leave perfectionism behind. Just, do it.
- Don't attempt a wing. Eyeliner can sense fear and it will play you.
- Glitter liner is quicker, easier, and less messy than a regular glitter and brings any look up about 10 notches. Use it to define a crease, all over the lid, on the lower lash line etc.
- Go with colours and techniques you're used to working with. There's no point in trying a really bright pink, spotlight if you rarely do spotlights and rarely wear pinks. If you're like me you wont leave until its perfect and no one gets something new perfect on their first attempt.
- A simple look can always be made more dramatic with a gorgeous pair of (cruelty free - please don't use real mink) lashes.
Skin
Again stick to what you know. Your tried and tested concealer and foundation over your favourite primer means you know the products and how to work with them. Trying a new foundation on a big day / night isn't the best idea as you don't know how to work with it or if it will flash back in photography etc. It's all about minimizing stress in a rush.
Also leave the cream contouring behind! Ain't nobody got time for that! Powder contour and highlight work just as well and they don't require the same blending time as their cream counterparts.
Lips
A lip liner and lipstick are such a classic combination that are also very quick and easy to fix if you mess them up. A small bit of concealer on an angled brush cleans up any mistakes very quickly and the sharpness also makes you look more polished. Liquid lipsticks are usually more difficult to clean up if you go wrong so I'd avoid these in a hurry.
A red lip looks so put together if you're not keen on spending long on your eyes too. Running some bronzer in your crease, a pair of lashes, and a red lip looks hella glam and it doesn't take long at all. Any bold lip colour and minimal eye makeup is going to be much less time consuming in general and you still look like you are put together.
Lashes
This might seem counter intuitive, but I often find individual lashes are more straightforward and take less foostering than ones with a lash band. I have odd shaped eyes so lashes tend to really rise up on my inner corner which makes sticking them on a pain. I find individuals a lot less finicky to put on. I cut my lashes into strips sometimes to make the application easier. Try it and see!
Clothes
This isn't always applicable but try and have your outfit put together and ready to go. At least try and have it together in your head to speed up. Nothing wastes time like trying on outfit after outfit to find the perfect one. Another thing I find helpful is to have your bag ready to go. No running around at the last minute shoving things in your bag and panicking in case you have forgotten something. Preparation is key people!
Hair
If possible, have your hair done the day before. Only have a touch up or minimal styling required as this could add another half hour on to your getting ready routine that you don't need! Batiste dry shampoo is a life saver for giving life back to your hair between washes while keeping the style.
I hope this helps anyone speed up their getting ready routine. I probably just wrote this post as a stern talk to myself; either way, thank you for reading.
Have fun getting ready!
Sophie
